First Prime Minister of Pakistan 


Liaquat Ali Khan was born on October 1, 1895, in Karnal, Punjab, British India (now in Haryana, India). He was a prominent lawyer, politician, and statesman who played a crucial role in the creation of Pakistan and served as its first Prime Minister from August 15, 1947, until his assassination on October 16, 1951.

Early Life and Education

Liaquat Ali Khan was born into a wealthy and influential family. His grandfather, Nawab Ahmad Ali, had received significant rewards from the British for his support during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Liaquat was educated at Aligarh Muslim University, where he earned a degree in Political Science, and later at Oxford University, where he studied law.

Political Career

Initially, Liaquat Ali Khan was involved with the Indian National Congress but later joined the All-India Muslim League, led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He became a close associate of Jinnah and played a pivotal role in the Pakistan Movement, advocating for a separate Muslim state.

Prime Minister of Pakistan

As the first Prime Minister of Pakistan, Liaquat Ali Khan faced numerous challenges, including the partition’s aftermath, refugee crises, and establishing a new government. He introduced several key policies, such as the Objectives Resolution, which laid the foundation for Pakistan’s constitution. His tenure also saw the beginning of the Cold War, during which he aligned Pakistan with the United States1.

Assassination

Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated on October 16, 1951, during a political rally in Rawalpindi. His death was a significant loss for the young nation, and he is remembered as a founding father and a key figure in Pakistan’s early history
